Haunted Ships: The USS Hornet

The USS Hornet is said to be one of the most haunted ships of all time. Today, this ship has its home at the Alameda Naval Base. Like any ship with a long history, the USS Hornet has seen its share of misery and death. In its 27-year history, over 300 people have died on board the USS Hornet.
Though many of these casualties were the result of combat, there were some who were killed due to accidents, but many also committed suicide. For some reason the USS Hornet had more suicides that any other ship to sail the seven seas.
Perhaps due to its history of tragedy, there have been many reports over the years of strange occurrences onboard the USS Hornet. Doors open and shut by themselves, objects disappearing, or moving from one place to another without explanation. Ghostly sailors have been spotted moving about the ship, and it isn’t unusual to feel someone touch or shove you if you find yourself alone on the haunted vessel. Many people report a strange feeling when boarding this ship.
If you would like to check out this haunted ghost ship for yourself, it is located in Alameda California, and is worth a visit, even if for its historical significance.

Your Personal Paranormal Experiences and True Ghost Stories

As I am always interested in reading true ghost experiences that others have experienced, I am sure many readers would also be interested in reading them. Anyone who has had their own strange or paranormal experience is invited to send it in so that it may be posted on this site. I can’t promise to post everyone’s story, but I will do my best to post as many of as possible.

Seeing Ghosts after a Loved One Dies

It is not unusual to see the ghost of a loved one after they have entered the realm of death, in fact, some recent research suggests that this is actually a very common experience; although they claim that these ghosts are hallucinations brought on by grief.
Of course it is likely that in some cases this is true, but it is difficult to believe that they could all be hallucinations, due to the different believe structures around the word about life after death. Even atheists, and those who believe that biological death is the end of existence have witnessed ghosts.
Aside from these facts, grief can account for only a very small percentage of ghost encounters, as many times the witness may have not had a recent loss, or have no connection at all to the deceased.

Ghost Whisperer: Jim Dies

Ghost Whisperer has been one of my favorite TV Shows since it began over 3 years ago. Although I realize that the ghost interaction with Melinda Gordon on this show is unrealistic, it is still refreshing to see a show that casts ghosts in a different light, as more of a natural element of living and dieing.
When you are a viewer of a TV Show for a long period of time you become familiar with the characters, and as many Ghost Whisperer fans are aware, one of those characters was killed in the November 7 episode. Melinda’s husband, Jim died of an embolism, after being accidentally shot by a police detective. Although Jim is remaining as a ghost, and may stay in the show as a result of possessing a body of someone who recently passed away, many viewers are extremely upset with this move by the producers.
The relationship between Melinda and Jim was perfect; some think maybe a little too perfect, so this move was a method of stirring things up a bit for his and Melinda’s characters, but like many viewers I found this character’s death very sad, especially as the couple was in the process of trying to have a child.
Though this subject is a little off topic, this episode caused me to think about the possibility of a spirit possessing another’s body at the moment of death. If this were a possibility, wouldn’t there be some cases of people who have Near Death Experiences being like different people when they come back because they actually are different people. This is a subject where more study could be useful.

Haunted Schools

Nearly every school has a legend of being haunted, but if you think about it, a school being haunted is not really that unusual. After all, generations of kids attend school within the same building, and no doubt at least a few of these children would have met with tragedy. Considering this, it probably would not be all that unusual for there to be many haunted schools.
Even colleges and dorms seem to have their share of ghosts, like the University of Nevada in Reno where a young man hung himself because of his grades. It is said that he still walks this college campus on dark and stormy nights.
Another college in Florida has a resident ghost of a murdered coed who continually lets others know she is still living in her old dorm.
A haunted high school in Eugene Oregon also has a resident ghost of a young man who fell to his death in the auditorium, where he remains to this day.
These are only a few of the legends of haunted schools, I am sure there are many; in fact you would probably be hard pressed to find a town or city that doesn’t have its share of haunted schools.

Why Doesn’t Everyone See Ghosts or Experience the Paranormal?

This question has always puzzled me to some extent. Though I don’t experience the paranormal everyday, and even less so as I get older, I thought it was something that everyone does experience to some extent.
Is it a coincidence that entire families will experience the paranormal, while others have never had an odd event happen in their lives?
I believe it is one of two things. Either some type of sixth sense is necessary to see or hear ghosts, and other dimensional realities, with the possibility that the ability runs in families, or everyone might experience it and some ignore it, while others are simply too busy to notice.
I do have a difficult time comprehending the “not noticing theory” as a few of the events that I’ve witnessed were too blatant to ignore or not notice. What I believe to be the most likely answer is that others do experience odd events sometimes, but they will find any explanation that seems logical, and force the explanation to fit, no matter if it makes sense or not.

Haunted Attractions That Are Really Haunted

Most likely you have heard tales of the Halloween haunted attractions that are really haunted. I am sure that many of these stories are sales hype, but one local haunted attraction actually had so many problems that they brought in some paranormal investigators.
The investigation took place during the off hours, and not only were they able to capture EVP, and images on camera, but one of the investigators was physically attacked, and became so ill he had to leave the building.
I have heard of several of these haunted attractions that were actually haunted; one reason could be that many of them are operated out of very old buildings, but another reason could be that the ghosts are attracted to the energy that is in these locations. Night after night hundreds of people are scared witless, which leaves behind a lot of energy that negative spirits may feed off of.
It is something you may want to think about when you are walking through a haunted attraction next Halloween. That ghostly apparition that you glimpse down the hall may not be special effects.

Haunted Lighthouses on the Oregon Coast

There is just something really spooky about lighthouses; maybe it is their isolation, and aura of loneliness, or maybe it is the many tragedies that a life at sea can visit upon those who tread too often on her waters.
Just north of Florence Oregon is the Heceta Head Lighthouse, which has tales of a wispy ghostly woman, and things that simply disappear without a trace. Once a famed photographer and his companion caught sight of the phantom woman in an upstairs window while on a shoot at this lighthouse, but they are only a couple of the many people who seem to have had encounters with this ghostly wench.
Now on to Newport Oregon and the ghost of the Yaquina Head Lighthouse where some believe that the old lighthouse keeper still resides within its walls and the phantom of a young woman is purported to be seen on the beach at times. Though the tales of the Yaquina Head Lighthouse are questionable due to recently discovered information, there are still plenty of haunted lighthouses on the Oregon Coast, as well as in many other locations.
Imagine spending a foggy, dark night in one of these old buildings; what ghostly specters might you encounter.

Visiting Ghosts

If you have every had a paranormal experience that just seemed to come out of nowhere for no reason, you may have had a visiting ghost.
You live in a new house that has little chance of being haunted, you’ve never had much experience with the paranormal, and you certainly don’t play with talking boards, or perform séances, so why all the sudden are the doors opening and shutting by themselves, the TV turning on and off, and you are hearing whispered voices?
You may have a visiting ghost.
The current theory is that ghosts can and do go where they want, and while passing through may find something of interest and stick around for a while. This makes sense in many ways.
For example, it would explain why you might suddenly have ghost activity out nowhere, and then it disappears just as fast. Possibly a ghost was passing by, and found something about you, or your house, or something else that caught their attention, and they stay to investigate.
Whatever the reason, those who do experience ghost activity, may notice how it does seem to come and go. The visiting ghost could be one explanation.

Haunted Tours New Orleans Ghosts

With over 200 years of history, some of it very tragic, it is no wonder that New Orleans has more than its share of ghosts, and appropriately you can find many haunted ghost tours in New Orleans.
The legends of New Orleans involve pirates, voodoo, murder, and war, and these tragedies have left their mark on the city.
Often on the haunted tours of New Orleans you’ll visit one of the most haunted houses in the city, which is the famed LaLaurie Mansion, located in the French Quarter at 1140 Royal Street. The story begins in 1832 with Dr. Louis Lalaurie and his wife, Delphine. The Lalaurie family were the cream of the social class, and very influential in the city of New Orleans, but no one would guess the dark and gruesome truth behind this family’s prominent front.
It would be the neighbors on Royal Street that would begin to suspect that something just wasn’t quite right at the fine residence of the Lalauries; many of the family’s slave would disappear without explanation, and someone would show up to take their place. What was happening to all the slaves?
Things began to unfold when a neighbor witnessed a small girl jump from the roof of the home to her death, as Mrs. Lalaurie was chasing her. Later the girl was buried in the yard. At a later time a fire broke out, and when it was finally extinguished, a secret torture room was found with over a dozen bodies chained and in cages. They had been tortured in various ways, and there were also body parts scattered about.
The Lalaurie family fled New Orleans never to be seen again, but the ghosts of their torture victims still remain.
This is just one of the famous hauntings of New Orleans that you visit on a haunted tour.

Do Ghosts Visit In Your Dreams?

Many people will have dreams of loved ones who have passed on, but what if some of these dreams were actually visitations from those loved ones? In fact, this does not seem to be an uncommon method of ghost visitation.
Possibly the spirits or ghosts have an easier time getting through to someone who is in a subconscious state, and this is how they choose to communicate.
There is a difference between those dreams of people who have passed on that are truly just dreams, and those that may actually be ghosts communicating with you. One of the main differences is in how you remember the dream,
A normal dream is often fragmented and makes little sense, but when you are actually receiving communication from the dead during your dream, it is very vivid and you will likely remember every detail.
For example, a step uncle committed suicide, and within weeks there is a vivid dream where he comes to the door and asks if his brother is home. In the dream you don’t really realize that he is not suppose to be there, you tell him that his brother is not at home at the moment, and the step uncle simply says “Tell him I was here” You shut the door and wake up. After waking you realize that the uncle is dead, and that you have just received a message to give to the uncle’s brother.
You can remember every detail, right down to the suit that the uncle was wearing, which just happens to be the same one he was buried in.
This could very possibly be a ghost dream visit.

Curse of the Salem Witch Trials

The Salem witch trials wreaked havoc on the lives of many innocent people, and out of the ashes came a curse that some say still haunts Salem to this day.
As the story goes, a man by the name of Giles Corey, along with his wife, was accused of witchcraft. It was common for the property of those who were convicted of witchcraft to be confiscated, and to avoid this; Giles Corey refused to admit to any wrongdoing or witchcraft, hoping to save his property for his children.
On the grounds that is now known as Howard Cemetery, Giles was tortured as the sheriff piled boards and stones on him until he was crushed to death. As the legend goes, Giles Corey uttered a curse against the sheriff and all of Salem with his dying words.
Oh but curses can’t be real?
Coincidently, each and every sheriff has died while in office or been forced out because of health ailments since this curse was uttered in 1692; in addition to this, Salem has had its share of massive tragedies over the years. It has been said that before each tragedy strikes, someone in the town of Salem sees the ghost of Giles Corey.

Insane or Haunted: The Winchester Mystery House

Can the means in which we acquire our fortunes come back to haunt us? The heiress of the Winchester Rifle fortune certainly believed this.
Sarah Winchester’s husband, William Winchester, was the man behind the Winchester Rifle, and in 1881 he died of tuberculosis. Though this was unfortunate for the Winchester window, it would not be the only misfortune she would have in her life. The couple’s only child also died at only 6 weeks of age.
Distraught by these tragedies, Sara sought the advice of a psychic, who advised her to move out west and build a house in memory of all the victims of the Winchester Rifle. This psychic had convinced Sarah that all her misfortunes were due to the deaths of the many people killed by the Winchester rifle, and in order for her not to fall victim to misfortune herself, she would have to continue adding onto her house until the day she died.
This is exactly what Sarah did, after moving to California she began construction on the famous Winchester Mystery House, and work would continue on this house for 38 years. Throughout those 38 years, work continued day and night, and on every day of the week, including holidays.
By the time Sarah had passed away, the house had a 164 rooms, and some very strange features, such as staircases that lead to nowhere, windows that open to brick walls, etc. It is said that Sarah did this in order to confuse the ghosts that were haunting her.
One room in the house was set aside so that Sarah could continue to communicate with the spirits, and do their bidding in the construction of the house.
So was the Winchester widow insane, or are there actually ghosts in the huge Victorian mansion. Many visitors of the Winchester Mystery House have claimed to hear strange noises, and workers swear that windows and doors slam by themselves, and voices can be heard when the house is empty.
Both psychics, as well as paranormal investigators have claimed that there are indeed, ghosts in the old mansion, but are they long forgotten victims of the Winchester Rifle, or those who spent their life constructing this house?

Theme Park Ghosts

Is there anything quite as eerie as a haunted amusement park? These theme parks are where we go to create fantastic memories with our loved ones, the last thing we want to think about is death, or ghosts, but the unfortunate does happen. Though accidents are rare, the sheer number of people who ride the rollercoaster, and other thrill rides, do lead to a few unfortunate deaths every year. For this reason, it shouldn’t come as any big surprise that there may be a few haunted theme parks.
Don’t panic! The next time you visit a theme park you will likely have a great time with no mishaps at all, but it is an unfortunate fact that accidents can and do happen, and not all theme park visitors leave the parks alive.
First we will visit the famous ghosts of King’s Island located in Cincinnati Ohio. Legend has it that there is a young girl, about six years old, who is buried on the property and can sometimes be seen late at night in the parking lot area. She wears a blue dress, and makes a habit of running about and scaring the tram drivers, as well as several motorists.
Another theme park ghost attributed to King’s Island is that of a small boy who walks along the tracks of the racer. Most often it is the King’s Island guests that report seeing a boy dressed all in white, and walking on the tracks.
Woody from the White Water Canyon ride is said to scare those who work in the towers along the ride’s route. He throws rocks at the windows and doors. No one is absolutely sure who Woody really is, but it could possible be a young man who was killed there in 1983.
What about the happiest place on earth? Could there be ghosts lurking about one of the world’s favorite theme parks?
At night when all the visitors have left the park, a young boy is said to haunt the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. Employees have caught glimpses of him riding in boats that were supposed to be empty.
Another area of Disneyland that is purported to be very haunted is Tom Sawyer Island. When the park is closed, many employees have reported seeing and hearing children on the island, but they are unable to locate anyone when they go to the island to investigate.
Another famous specter said to haunt the park is that of an unknown entity who has been seen lurking around Sleeping Beauty’s Castle after closing time, but again nobody can be found when employees are sent to investigate.
Now on to Six Flags Magic Mountain, and its ghost legends. Here we meet the ghost of a former employee who is said to haunt the Revolution. This unfortunate employee stepped onto the tracks and was hit. The eerie feelings and odd happenings on this ride could be this employee still hanging around the last place she worked.
With so many legends of haunted theme parks, the happiest places on earth may also be some of the most haunted. Though this is only a short list of theme park ghosts, it is very likely that there are ghost legends associated with nearly every theme park. So the next time you visit one, imagine what it would be like if you were there alone, after closing. What ghosts would be lurking about?

The Visions of the Dying: Ghost Visitors

If there is any place that is full of ghosts, I imagine that it would be hospitals, and nursing homes. Many people, who work around illness and death, often have some profound stories to tell about deathbed visions.
Deathbed visions are much more common that what you may believe. If you were to study several of these ghost visitors, or deathbed visions, you’d be surprised to see that they are very similar, no matter what race, religion, or background of the people who are experiencing them. In fact, these ghost visitors, or vision may be some of the strongest proof there is available of life after death.
These visions have been studied extensively and there are many aspects of them that simply cannot be explained away with medicine or logic.
During these deathbed visions, it is not uncommon for people to see friends or relatives who are diseased, but the dying person not know yet that the person has passed.
When the dying person was a child, they would often ask in amazement why the angels did not have wings.
It is not uncommon for these ghostly visitors to tell the dying person that they have come to take care of them; this may even be the case when it is not yet obvious that the person in question actually will die.
These experiences seem to happen, even if the dying person does not believe in life after death.
Another aspect of the deathbed visions that tends to be hard to dismiss is the in rare cases, those who are in the room with the dying person may actually catch a glimpse of the ghost visitors.
The deathbed visions of the dying provide strong evidence for an afterlife, as well as for the existence of ghosts.

Demon Infestation: How to Determine if a Ghost, is Actually a Demon

If you have ever seen the movie, The Exorcist, you may recall that when the disturbances first began, they were little more than a few bumps in the attic, and the odd behavior of the child. It is for this reason that paranormal activity can often be frightening. The paranormal resides in to the realm of the unknown, whether the root of the problem be a ghost, or a demon.
Often a demon infestation can begin just as ghost activity would. You may see movement out of the corner of your eye, have a feeling of uneasiness, or possibly hear noises that couldn’t be coming from a natural source.
A demonic infestation will usually follow a certain pattern, and in nearly every documented case, the door to demon infestation was opened either intentionally, or unintentionally, through the use of Ouiji boards, séances or some other type of conjuring. Though only a very small percentage of people playing with the supernatural, actually suffer these types of consequences, the danger is there, and real.
The first stage of a demon infestation involves such typical ghost activity as cold spots, strange odors, as well as knocking in the walls, and other types of noises.
During the next stage, the entity may become more violent in nature; objects may levitate, or disappear altogether, damage may be done to the house or personal items, and there may actually be attacks on those living in the house.
After a period of wearing down those in the home, the demon will eventually attempt to possess someone, and the possession does not have to be on a continual basis, and usually happens intermittently. Demon possession is dangerous and should dealt with as soon as possible by a professional exorcist.
Most exorcists, especially priests of the Roman Catholic Church, have a strict guideline that must be followed before permission is granted for an exorcism. The possessed person must first have a thorough psychological, and physical examination in order to rule out physical or mental illness. Additionally, they must show knowledge of things they could not possibly have access to, and be speaking in languages they did not know previously. There are other rules involved, but these are the basics. Permission for an exorcism is only granted in a very small percentage of cases.
To keep yourself safe from the danger of demon infestation, it is best to not attempt any type of communication with the dead unless you are very experienced in this type of phenomena.

EVP

EVP, also known as Electronic Voice Phenomena is one of the most fascinating areas of the paranormal I have yet to come across. It is theorized that the voices of spirits can be recorded when they interrupt an Electro Magnetic Field, (E.M.F's). Recordings can pick up these voices, but they are inaudible to the human ear.
Though there are times in which the human ear can hear the voices when they are recorded, most of the time, those who are doing the recording can hear nothing until they play it back.
Many EVP recordings are hard to make out and may be drowned out by static. Though you can hear some type of voice, you can’t really be sure, nor understand what the voice is saying. Other recordings are extremely clear, and sometimes eerie.
One strange thing about these recordings is that many of them appear to be stuck in a certain time period, as if they are still living in the time in which they were alive and don’t understand that they are dead. This is sometimes obvious by what the voices are saying. You may have one that says something about having to keep an eye out for his horse.
At other times, it appears that by what they say that they do know that they are dead, and seem to be somewhat lost, or frustrated by their attempt to communicate with the living.
Most researchers believe that you can pick up EVP in nearly every location, but places noted for paranormal phenomena do tend to be hot spots for EVP.
I have to admit that when I first heard of this phenomenon, I was a little skeptical about it. So after researching how to record EVP, I did try it myself and was amazed at what came out on the recording. I used my computer to record it, and though I got a lot of fuzzy white noise and inaudible voices, I was able to come up with a couple of clear voices. I did this when nobody was in the house, and it was late at night to ensure that no noise from outside would interfere.
I will be posting a couple of these recordings to show you what I came up with.
After experiencing this myself, I no longer doubt that this is possible; I am just not quite sure what the source is. There is some speculation that it is airwaves being picked up, but in some cases there appears to be real interaction between the investigator and the voice being recorded. Such as in the one I will post, I asked what the person’s name was.
In any case, no matter what is behind EVP, it is very interesting.

The Ghosts of Hampton Court Palace

An imposing structure of over a thousand rooms, Hampton Court Palace has been the home to many royals over the years. Its walls have seen their share of tragedy and bloodshed, Catherine Howard, an unfortunate wife of King Henry VIII was kept prisoner at Hampton Court until she was beheaded for adultery. Many believe her ghost still roams the halls, looking for her husband so that she can plead for her life one last time.
This ancient castle is considered to be one of the most haunted places in England. Commonly reported disturbances include misty apparitions in the old Tudor kitchen, as well as another ghost that tends to frequent the nearby wine cellars.
The royal gallery is where the ghost of Catherine Howard is said to lurk. There have been reports of visitors being hit and touched while in the gallery.
Jane Seymore; another wife of Henry the VIII died while giving birth to the future Edward VI. There have been reports that Jane is seen in the Silver Stick Gallery on Edward VI’s birthday.
These are only a few of the ghost stories associated with the beautifully eerie, Hampton Court Palace. There are dozens of ghosts that are said to inhabit the old castle, which is not really very surprising, considering its age, and the many sorrows and joys experienced behind its walls.

Are There Ghosts in Your House?

You are home alone in a dark and quiet house; suddenly there is a banging sound coming from the basement. Reluctantly you descend the basement stairs to find out what is making all the racket, but can find no cause. You go back upstairs and as soon as you step out of the basement, you are assaulted by a strong odor; and again you can’t find the source. Maybe you have a ghost.
It is not always easy to tell if you have a ghost in your house, or if you are simply experiencing a series of coincidences, or an overactive imagination. Here is some information to help you determine if your house may actually be haunted.
When you experience something that you feel is strange, always look for a natural and practical explanation for the experience. For example, you may find that your lights are flickering continually, or maybe only once in a while, but to be sure that it isn’t just problems with wiring, you would need to call an electrician to check the wiring and fixtures.
You could also find a natural explanation for noises and odors. Sound can travel easily, so be sure that the sounds you are hearing are not coming from outside, or some other source, and eliminate any possible contributor that may be responsible for any odors.
Only after you have completely eliminated a natural explanation for the experiences, can you consider that they may be supernatural in nature. If this is the case, don’t worry; having a ghost in residence usually isn’t anything that is of great concern, though it can sure scare the pants off of you.
Contact an investigator to do a complete investigation on your house, and possibly the home’s history. They may be able to either confirm a haunting, or eliminate the problem being paranormal in nature.
Don’t be too surprised if all the investigator can do is confirm a haunting. Not always can a paranormal investigator actually rid a property of ghosts. If there is an entity, they will only leave if that is what they choose to do.
In most cases, ghosts are not dangerous, other than frightening everyone. What you have to think about is that human ghosts would probably have the same traits and personality as they did in life. If they were not evil in life, they will likely not be evil in death either. Now you may have to worry if you come across the ghost of a mass murderer, but I believe this would be very rare, and even if it were to happen, the ghost would have to be strong enough to actually harm you.
For those rare cases in which the entity you are dealing with is a non-human spirit, or what is known as a parasite or demon, you may be in a little more danger. In this case an exorcist may be brought in. Though it may not be obvious at first, there are some differences between ghosts and demons. Demons, or parasites will feed off of negative energy, so the more frightened you are, the better. They will do what is in their power to cause you fear, frustration and anger. They will also attack you physically, so if you are finding you are being scratched, hit and bruised by some unseen force, this is a good indication that you are not being haunted by a ghost.
Another difference tends to be the intensity of the activity. A ghost may rarely levitate something, but they are usually very subtle, and most often their activity remains harmless, such as knocks on the walls, slamming doors, lights turning on and off by themselves, voices, etc.
A demon on the other hand starts out small, with voices and other noises, and then progresses. If they levitate something, it may be something as large as a table, or even a refrigerator. Ghosts really don’t do this.
If you feel you are being haunted, this information should help you to discover the source of your haunting.

Zombies: What If?

For most of my life I have been terrorized by nightmares about zombies, yet in my waking hours I know of all the anomalies I discuss here, this is most certainly the least likely scenario that any of us are apt to face.
So why the nightmares about zombies? I don’t particularly like zombie movies, (probably the result of years of horrible zombie nightmares) and don’t watch them very often, and usually when I do have a nightmare like this, I haven’t even watched one of those movies in ages.
I don’t really have an answer for this, but it often gets me wondering “What If”
The only way a zombie epidemic could even remotely be conceivable as a possibility, is through some type of virus that affects the brain function, such as in the film 28 Days Later.
If you stop and think about it, the “What If” may not seem so outlandish when you consider the many new strains of viruses that are constantly terrorizing the human population, such as the Bird Flu. In addition to this, there is always biological warfare; do we really know what types of biological weapons the governments of the world are developing? What if there was an accident of some sort?
If you let your imagination wander, the idea can become very scary. Ghosts, Demons, Aliens, I am not sure any of these are quite as chilling as the idea of zombies roaming the earth, waiting to devour the living.
So the what if question again; what if it were to happen? What would you do, and how would you survive?
Here is some highly recommended reading materials to help you answer these questions.
The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living Dead by Max Brooks
This book can help you stay alive if the unthinkable should ever happen.
Another interesting book from the best selling Zombie expert, Max Brooks is The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks.
If nothing else, the books could give you a sense of security, and if you also suffer from nightmares, maybe they will no longer bother you.

Do We Survive Death?

There are few religions or cultures in the world that do not believe in some form of life after death. The belief that we survive after death has been around almost as long as mankind has been around.
The one thing I have always found very puzzling with today’s attitude about ghosts is, how the majority of society can believe in the continued existence of consciousness after death, but still not believe in ghosts? If our conciseness survives death, then it must take some form. Logic would clue us in that that form is what is commonly known as a “ghost” It really is impossible for one to be real, with out considering the other.
Simply because of its nature, there is not a great deal of scientific fact to back up life after death, but still many people have incorporated this into their belief system. This is especially true of Christians and other religions that teach that there is a way to survive death.
Aside from the numerous stories of near death experiences, there are always ghosts to help back up the theory of surviving death.
The fact is, not only have I witnessed a ghost myself, but there are simply way too many reports of people seeing, or experiencing ghost activity for there not to be substance to this. This is not to say that everyone who says or thinks they have saw a ghost, actually has, but there are probably many who have had an authentic ghost experience.
So what is a ghost? After years of research I have come to the conclusion that one possibility is that it is the form that our spirit takes on after death. I think it is a good likelihood that we continue to exist on another plane or dimension, which is invisible to those who are living. In essence, we do not die, but simply step through the door to another dimension where life could be something like what we know now.
This is just one of many possibilities, but definitely something worth thinking about.

Paranormal Investigators

If you have ever experienced unexplainable phenomena that simply wouldn’t quit, you may have considered contacting a group of paranormal investigators at some point. There are a couple of different types of paranormal investigators, those with a formal education and a scientific background, and those who can be classified as ghost hunters. Both types of investigators have their pros and cons.
Paranormal investigators are fairly rigorous about documenting and measuring paranormal activity, but they do have a tendency to be somewhat critical, and closed-minded at times.
The ghost hunter is more open to possibilities, but may not have the expertise and equipment necessary for a thorough scientific investigation. In recent years ghost hunters have come a long ways in conducting their investigations in a more professional manner, and some may even approach their investigations with the same scientific attitude as the paranormal investigators.
If you are experiencing an excessive amount of paranormal activity that don’t seem to be letting up, both the paranormal investigator, and the ghost hunter may be able to help with your problem, though it is advisable that you do some research on the investigators before you call them to come to your house.
A paranormal investigator may be able to determine if what you are experiencing is actually paranormal in nature, or if there is some other type of explanation for the activity. They often determine if the cause could be paranormal by screening those who are experiencing the problems, as well as by investigating the area in which the paranormal activity is occurring.
In most cases, paranormal investigators will not have the ability to rid your house of the activity, but they can help you to better understand the phenomena, and therefore help to limit the disruptions caused by the activity.
If you can’t find any other explanation for the paranormal activity you are experiencing, it couldn’t hurt to think about calling in some professional paranormal investigators.

Phone Calls From Ghostly Realms

The phone rings, and the last thing you are thinking about is a ghost, or the realm beyond death, but what if . . .
Have you ever had a strange incident involving a phone, which you have never been able to explain? Maybe you picked up the phone and the line was dead, and within seconds something strange happens, or possibly you get a phone call from someone who sounds very much like Aunt Edna, yet you know it cannot be because she has been diseased for years.
If you have ever experienced anything like this, you are not alone. Many people have had similar experiences, though for some people the incident is completely unacceptable because they have been taught that such things simply can’t happen, but they do.
For as long as there have been phones, there have been people claiming to receive strange and unearthly calls. Is it possible that those on the other side of death can manipulate our communication systems at times in order to get messages across to their loved ones?
I was once told a story about a woman who had received such a phone call when she was a young girl. As the story was related to me,

“One night when I was younger; I was home alone because my mom was at work and my dad had passed away a few years before. There was a terrible storm that night and the phones were out. I know this for sure because when I picked up the phone to call my friend, the line was dead. Bored, I decided to go to bed, but during the night the phone ringing awakened me. Still half asleep, I answer the phone and there was a familiar male voice on the other end. The man asked if he had reached camera shop. I told him no and hung up the phone. At this point I realized that the voice had sounded just like my father’s voice, and he had been a professional photographer when alive. I quickly picked up the phone, but there was no dial tone, it was still out.”

Another incident that was related to me by my own mother occurred when she was about 18 or 19 years old. It was late at night, and she was at her babysitting job tending small children. The children were in bed asleep, and she was watching TV. The phone rang and she picked it up; the caller was a woman who said, “Don’t go outside” then hung up. She did not recognize the voice at all, and was very confused by the call. A few minutes later she heard some noises near the back door; when she went to turn on the porch light, it wouldn’t work. Fortunately, the doors were locked because at that time someone attempted to open the door, and began pounding on it.
Terrified she dialed 911; the police showed up just in time to see someone running from the property. It turns out that the porch light wouldn’t work because the intruder had unscrewed.
It’s difficult to say if this was a genuine warning from the other side, or possibly a neighbor saw the intruder and warned her, but it is confusing as to why the neighbor would not have given her more information, or phoned the police herself.
These are just a couple examples of phone calls that could be connected to ghosts, or some other phenomena. There have also been instances when people have returned home to get strange messages on their answering machines from people who were long dead, and even phone calls on cell phones when the phone is turned off.
Though these incidents are still largely unexplainable, there’s some speculation that this phenomena could be closely linked to that of EVP, also known as electronic voice phenomena. EVP is for a different post, but a quick explanation is that of voices showing up on recordings that could not possibly exist.
Could these strange calls be connected to the realm beyond death?

What Are Ghosts

The term ghost really encompasses a few different types of what one might term, “ghost activity.” When the word ghost comes up, most people envision the disembodied spirit of the dearly departed, but in actuality, what someone may take for a ghost, may in fact be something else.
The Residual Haunting is where an observer may see a replay of an event, such as many of the sightings reported at Gettysburg. In this case the ghost, or ghosts seem to be replaying the same dramatic event over and over again, and to the observer it would be something akin to watching a movie, or a play. The specters in this type of haunting do not interact with the observers.
Though it is not known for sure what this type of haunting is, it is thought that it is some type of recording on the atmosphere, which replays itself when the atmospheric conditions are just right.
The difference between this type of haunting, and a traditional ghost is that with a traditional ghost or spirit, there may be some type of interaction between the entity and the observer. The interaction could be as simple as the spirit looking directly at the observer, as if to acknowledge their presence, or the spirit may actually talk with the person. There have even been reports of feeling the touch of a disembodied spirit.
It is believed that these are the ghosts of the departed who have stayed earthbound for some reason. Possibly they are attached to some place or object, and in some instances they may want to stay near their loved ones.
In addition to these types of ghosts, is what is thought to be the non-human entity. These can be difficult to detect, especially at first, they tend to mimic traditional ghost activity. The non-human spirit is an entity that has never been in human form, some may call them demons, or parasites, though what is commonly thought of as angels can be classified in this category as well.
Another difference between the traditional ghost, and the non-human spirits is that these parasites tend to be much stronger, and feed off of negative energy. Exactly how dangerous these entities are is debatable. Some believe that they are very dangerous and hard to get rid of, while others believe that by simply refusing to acknowledge these spirits, you are denying them the energy that they need, so they move on.
Traditional ghosts, and parasites, as well as spirits that may be classified as angels, are interdimensional beings, but there may be others that are not so easily classified.
One such phenomenon is that of the Shadow People. It is not know whether these are actually ghosts, or some other type of being.
Ghosts can appear as solid as a living, breathing person, or they can be semi-transparent. Whitish-gray mists or vapors of ectoplasm are thought to be that of ghosts, and some also peculate that the orbs often caught on camera may also be spirits. These orbs have been seen with the naked eye, though this is highly unusual.
What ghosts are is difficult to know for sure, all that you can do is place the different phenomena in categories according to behavior, and continue in your quest to discover the truth behind this mystery.

About Beyond Death & Other Mysteries

This blog is all about death, and other paranormal mysteries. What lies beyond death has intrigued mankind for ages, as it does today. I have been researching many different aspects of the paranormal for most of my adult life, and hope you will join my on my quest to discover what lies behind the mysterious, and the unexplained.
What I have uncovered by exploring the paranormal is that there is definitely more to our universe that what we can see, touch, and feel. There is an invisible world all around us; call it extra dimensions if you like.
My quest into the unexplained is not limited only to that of ghosts and the afterlife; I also find the UFO and Alien phenomena very interesting. What I have found is that there are so many different elements of the paranormal; it’s difficult to concentrate on just one, without involving the many other mysteries at some point.
I will post information not just on ghosts, but ghost legends, UFOs, Aliens, Extra Dimensions, oddities, and more. Whatever information I find interesting, and relevant to the paranormal, and our existence in this life.
