After Death Communication: Did we get messages from mom?

Messages From the Dead

Since my last post our family has experienced tragedy that has kept me from keeping up on this site. My mother passed away, and though it was not entirely unexpected, it was a terrible experience. Mom suffered from a stroke 10 years ago that left here severely disabled and she had a problem with choking and aspirating due to paralysis. Though she could still talk, she was difficult to understand at times. She could eat by herself but it was difficult for her.

The family took care of her for several years until it got to be too much and then she was put in a care center about four years ago. Essentially her aspiration problem continued to get worse until this past March when she developed pneumonia. She was at the care center when my brother went to visit, he found her collapsed with the nurses working on her. She was hospitalized that day in ICU.

After about a week they told us that her only chance of survival was to have a feeding tube put in her stomach and one in her throat where they could extract the buildup in her lungs. If they did this she would never be able to eat or drink again.

Though it was tempting to give them permission for the procedure just to save her life, myself and my brothers and sister were hesitant because mom had already suffered so much since her stroke.

Before she had been hospitalized, mom kept asking me about spending Easter with us and we discussed this. When she regained consciousness in the hospital I encouraged her to get better for Easter, she would just shake her head. She knew she would never live to see Easter, though no one had told her yet. This is where I also should mention that just a couple of days before she was hospitalized she mentioned that she had sensed someone standing next to her bed in the middle of the night, and they talked to her but she couldn’t see them. I assumed this could have been delirium due to her illness, and it could have been, but I now wish I had questioned her more about it.

Finally we asked her if she wanted the tube, or wanted to be taken off life support without it. She indicated that she did not want the tube. When life support was removed, she just kept saying she wanted to go home. I don’t know if she meant home to the care center, or home to God. After life support was removed she refused any further treatment, she would not let them suction out her throat and within a day had developed pneumonia again.

The doctor had told us that she probably would only last a few days off of life support so we were not surprised. She was moved to different location where hospice took over her care.

I was going through a nasty divorce that had been initiated just after my mom was hospitalized, and as a result was in a desperate fight to keep my children. (He pulled some pretty mean and deceptive stuff while trying to use the system against me, even as he knew my mother was in the hospital dying.)

I could not spend as much time with her in her last days as I should have due to this reason. I did not want her to know what was happening so I never told her anything about why I had to leave hospital frequently, or couldn’t stay with her there the whole time, and this upset me. I only hope now that she understands. I just didn’t want her to pass on with what was happening to me, worrying her.

She went under the care of hospice on a Sunday morning and by Tuesday night they told us she probably only had a few hours at most. The whole family gathered at her bedside, and there are quite a few of us. I asked the hospice nurse if a priest had been contacted; this was imperative to my mother’s beliefs. To her credit, the nurse scrambled and was able to contact a priest, even at that late hour.

When I first sat down next to her bed I noticed there was a strong soapy perform scent around her; they had just cleaned her up. My mother was unconscious, but when I would talk with her she opened her eyes on a couple of occasions.

When my mother passed, for me the experience was horrible. It was the only time I had dealt with death directly, and I forced myself to be in the room so that I could be there for her. Just as the priest entered the room, my mother passed.

Naturally every one present was extremely upset. I went outside so that they could clean mom up and prepare her for the mortuary to pick her up. From that moment and throughout the rest of the night I had the strangest feeling my mother was right with me. I commented to my siblings that I felt mom was closer that she had been for a long time, like she was really there.

I don’t know if that was just a shocked psyche kicking in, or if it was truly her presence. The next morning I was climbing the basement stairs to the back door, and when I reached the landing I smelled that same perfume soap smell that I had noticed the night before in my mother’s room. It was very strong.

That night I was in the state somewhere between wakefulness and sleep when I heard my mom call my name three times. She called my name in the same tone of voice that she would use when she was urgently trying to get my attention. It brought me fully awake.

Within days of my mom’s death, and before her funeral, four of my adult children dreamt of my mom. She could not have her funeral until after Easter due to it being holy week. She told my daughter in a dream that she understood that our finances were bad and that we had no choice but to do a cremation, but she did want the funeral to be nice.

Three of my other adult children received dreams, with short messages. My brothers and sister also got small signs of mom’s presence during the following days.

My mother’s children were her life, and if there was any chance of getting an after death communication, I knew it would be with my mom.

I wanted to be able to afford a headstone by her birthday, but as finances are bad due to going through a divorce and paying for a funeral, it probably won’t be possible. I wonder if she is disappointed, as many things have happened since deciding to wait on the memorial stone. I’ve had pictures fall of the wall and brake, paper towels completely unravel and lying on the floor, etc.

Needless to say I have been ridden with guilt for not being able to spend as much time with her in her last days as I should have, plus I wondered if I shouldn’t have just ordered the procedure done anyway, though I feel it might have been a selfish thing to do on our part.

I have always been interested in EVP and I recently started recording them again. While recording I picked up something that I think might be mom. It is very faint and it is necessary to listen closely as I haven’t changed it at all or removed the noise. It sounds as if she is saying something like “couldn’t help me”

What About Skeptics of the Paranormal

Have you ever had a run in with someone that was so closed to the idea of the paranormal; it almost felt like that walked around with blinders on?
I know how this feels because my significant other is so closed to the idea of the paranormal that some of the explanations he comes up with or more bizarre than a paranormal explanation. The experience is extremely frustrating to say the least.
Having an open mind and being skeptical is a must, as there are a lot of things that can appear to be paranormal in nature but still have a natural explanation, but there are still many things that are not easily explained away.
Someone with a closed mind just cannot grasp this, so they are not just skeptical, they close their mind completely. They absolutely refuse to accept any type of paranormal explanation, no matter how much sense it makes.
So how do you deal with this? The fact is you really can’t do anything to change someone’s mind about this. They either have to experience something so extraordinary that they have no choice but to take a second look at their beliefs, or they will never believe. Sadly, often even when they do experience something like this, they will explain it away, no matter what it takes, or how ridiculous the explanation is.
Unfortunately, the very nature of the paranormal makes it nearly impossible to prove and so if you believe or not is up to you.
Though it probably will do no good, the next time a skeptic gives you a bad time about what you believe, here are some things you can combat the argument with.
Some of the common explanations for the paranormal include,
Alien Abduction: Sleep paralysis seems to be the most frequent explanation for this phenomenon, and to be fair it probably does account for a great many of these occurrences, but there’s only one problem. A large number of them do not occur while the person is asleep, and many are not even in bed. Of course there are always those abduction cases where more than one person is involved. The sleep paralysis argument just doesn’t fly, at least not with a large percentage of cases.
The Near Death Experience: The common explanation for this is that the whole experience is a chemical reaction in the brain, a reaction to the dying process. The problem with this explanation is that there are some cases where the person who experiences the NDE, has no heartbeat, or brain waves. In other words, the whole body I completely dead, including the brain, there is no function. If there is no brain function, there can be no experience, no memory, no anything. But still, during the time there is no heartbeat or brain activity, the person is still seeing what’s happening in the room. The only possible way this could happen is if they are outside of their body, and their memories and consciousness exists separate from the brain.
If these provable cases are similar to others, how can you be sure that they are not all real?
Ghosts: Refer to the information on NDE. If someone is experiencing something outside of their body when they are clinically dead, including having no brain waves, then they are a ghost, and if they are a ghost, why couldn’t those who do not return be ghosts as well?
This is aside from the countless witnesses of apparitions or the presence of invisible entities. This is something I have encountered first hand so I know this is real, but if someone has never experienced this directly it’s easy to see how they would be skeptical. I would be if I hadn’t have witnessed it with my own eyes.
If you do your research, for many aspects of the paranormal, you can counter the “logical explanations”
What it really comes down to is that as long as you know, that’s what counts. You are fortunately to have an insight into a reality that others simply can’t see, and in a sense this is a gift. Keep that in mind whenever a skeptic begins telling you how foolish your beliefs are.

Medium / Clairvoyant Lisa Williams

I recently had the opportunity to see Lisa Williams live. I had watched her shows on TV, and although she seemed to be extraordinarily good at what she does, I decided to reserve judgment until I’d watched her live.
For those who are unfamiliar with Lisa Williams, she is a medium/clairvoyant who allegedly has the ability of communicating with the dead.
If you have done any research at all on mediums, you have probably heard the term cold read, etc. This is where they get the person to reveal details without the person realizing it.
When I went to this show I was watching carefully for this technique, and I have to say I just didn’t see it. Lisa Williams was amazing, and gave these people details, not just any details, but such personal and minute details, there is simply no way she could have known.
Lisa Williams is definitely someone worth checking out. Not only does she seem to be very good at what she does, but she has an extremely likable personality.

After Death Communications

A large percentage of those who lose a loved one tend to have what is known today as, After Death Communications. One of the most common methods that those who have passed tend to communication is through dreams, although there are other methods that are also used.

Some researchers theorize that the reason that dreams are the most common form of after death communication is that the dreamer is in an altered state of consciousness, enabling the spirit to make contact.

Another method of the dead communicating with the living is through an actual physical manifestation where they appear to their loved ones, often telling them that they are happy where they are and that their loved one should grieve no more.

Some people have even reported phone calls from their deceased friends or family. Though phone communication with the dead is rare, it has been reported. When on the phone the voice is usually unmistakably as belonging to the person who has passed. They may just say hello, ask for someone, or actually tell the person on the other end that they are fine.

In addition to these forms of after death communication there are some more subtle communications, such as an odor or scent that you may easily associate with a passed loved one. This could be a perfume, cigar smoke, etc. The scent often has no source and disappears as quickly as it appeared.

Other signs of communication could include pictures of your loved one falling, or other mementos showing up continuously. All of these things could be attempts at communication.

Angels in Disguise

Throughout the ages people have reported strange encounters with strangers that were so strange and unsettling that they become convinced that they have been in the company of an angel.
Although there have been some reports of people seeing the traditional version of an angel, with the white robe, wings etc, far more often these angelic beings tend to appear in times of need in the form of a stranger who shows up out of nowhere to help you, disappearing just as fast.
Angels tend to appear during times of stress, danger, as well as during a near death experience. Approximately 50% of children who have a near death experience mention an angel encounter during their experience. This percentage is far lower with adults, though it does happen.
Angels have appeared as normal looking people, with long white robes and wings, as they are depicted in Christian art. Some people believe that their loved ones can become their guardian angels after they have passed on.
No matter what your personal belief about angels is, it’s difficult to completely dismiss the millions of stories people from all over the world tell about their encounters with angels.

"Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it." - Hebrews 13:2 of the Bible

Dad pays one last visit in a dream

My dad passed away when I was 18 years old. I will never forget that morning as long as I live. I had just graduated high school a few months before and was now employed at a grocery store, in the meatpacking department. I was still living at home and when I’d left that morning everything was fine, but shortly after my workday started I received a phone call from my mom saying I was needed at home right away. At that point they didn’t tell me what was wrong for fear of me being too upset to make it back home.
When I got home my mom told me that dad had passed away that morning shortly after I left. My younger sister found him; he’d apparently had a heart attack while dressing that morning. My dad was in his sixties at the time so it was a tremendous surprise, though devastating all the same.
I took the passing of my dad very hard, so hard in fact that I believe I may have been in denial; I didn’t think I could face the funeral. The night before the funeral I told my mother that I would not be going; she was very disappointed but didn’t push me to go, as I think she understood what I was feeling.
That night I dreamed that everyone was in the front yard, getting ready to go to the funeral, but I was still in the house. My dad walked into my bedroom and told me that I needed to go to the funeral. I told him I just couldn’t face it, but he said that I should go, that everything would be okay.
When I woke up the next morning my dad’s old hat was sitting on the nightstand next to my bed, and to this day I don’t know how it got there. I asked everyone in the house but no one claimed responsibility for placing dad’s hat in my room.
I felt that dad had paid me one last visit to help me get through my grief. Needless to say, I did end up going to the funeral.

Seeing Ghosts after a Loved One Dies

It is not unusual to see the ghost of a loved one after they have entered the realm of death, in fact, some recent research suggests that this is actually a very common experience; although they claim that these ghosts are hallucinations brought on by grief.
Of course it is likely that in some cases this is true, but it is difficult to believe that they could all be hallucinations, due to the different believe structures around the word about life after death. Even atheists, and those who believe that biological death is the end of existence have witnessed ghosts.
Aside from these facts, grief can account for only a very small percentage of ghost encounters, as many times the witness may have not had a recent loss, or have no connection at all to the deceased.

Near Death Experience

Millions of people have had near death experiences where they were either close to clinical death, or had already been pronounced dead. Many of these people come back with some incredible stories about the afterlife. Here is one man’s story.

Visiting Ghosts

If you have every had a paranormal experience that just seemed to come out of nowhere for no reason, you may have had a visiting ghost.
You live in a new house that has little chance of being haunted, you’ve never had much experience with the paranormal, and you certainly don’t play with talking boards, or perform séances, so why all the sudden are the doors opening and shutting by themselves, the TV turning on and off, and you are hearing whispered voices?
You may have a visiting ghost.
The current theory is that ghosts can and do go where they want, and while passing through may find something of interest and stick around for a while. This makes sense in many ways.
For example, it would explain why you might suddenly have ghost activity out nowhere, and then it disappears just as fast. Possibly a ghost was passing by, and found something about you, or your house, or something else that caught their attention, and they stay to investigate.
Whatever the reason, those who do experience ghost activity, may notice how it does seem to come and go. The visiting ghost could be one explanation.

Do Ghosts Visit In Your Dreams?

Many people will have dreams of loved ones who have passed on, but what if some of these dreams were actually visitations from those loved ones? In fact, this does not seem to be an uncommon method of ghost visitation.
Possibly the spirits or ghosts have an easier time getting through to someone who is in a subconscious state, and this is how they choose to communicate.
There is a difference between those dreams of people who have passed on that are truly just dreams, and those that may actually be ghosts communicating with you. One of the main differences is in how you remember the dream,
A normal dream is often fragmented and makes little sense, but when you are actually receiving communication from the dead during your dream, it is very vivid and you will likely remember every detail.
For example, a step uncle committed suicide, and within weeks there is a vivid dream where he comes to the door and asks if his brother is home. In the dream you don’t really realize that he is not suppose to be there, you tell him that his brother is not at home at the moment, and the step uncle simply says “Tell him I was here” You shut the door and wake up. After waking you realize that the uncle is dead, and that you have just received a message to give to the uncle’s brother.
You can remember every detail, right down to the suit that the uncle was wearing, which just happens to be the same one he was buried in.
This could very possibly be a ghost dream visit.

The Visions of the Dying: Ghost Visitors

If there is any place that is full of ghosts, I imagine that it would be hospitals, and nursing homes. Many people, who work around illness and death, often have some profound stories to tell about deathbed visions.
Deathbed visions are much more common that what you may believe. If you were to study several of these ghost visitors, or deathbed visions, you’d be surprised to see that they are very similar, no matter what race, religion, or background of the people who are experiencing them. In fact, these ghost visitors, or vision may be some of the strongest proof there is available of life after death.
These visions have been studied extensively and there are many aspects of them that simply cannot be explained away with medicine or logic.
During these deathbed visions, it is not uncommon for people to see friends or relatives who are diseased, but the dying person not know yet that the person has passed.
When the dying person was a child, they would often ask in amazement why the angels did not have wings.
It is not uncommon for these ghostly visitors to tell the dying person that they have come to take care of them; this may even be the case when it is not yet obvious that the person in question actually will die.
These experiences seem to happen, even if the dying person does not believe in life after death.
Another aspect of the deathbed visions that tends to be hard to dismiss is the in rare cases, those who are in the room with the dying person may actually catch a glimpse of the ghost visitors.
The deathbed visions of the dying provide strong evidence for an afterlife, as well as for the existence of ghosts.

Do We Survive Death?

There are few religions or cultures in the world that do not believe in some form of life after death. The belief that we survive after death has been around almost as long as mankind has been around.
The one thing I have always found very puzzling with today’s attitude about ghosts is, how the majority of society can believe in the continued existence of consciousness after death, but still not believe in ghosts? If our conciseness survives death, then it must take some form. Logic would clue us in that that form is what is commonly known as a “ghost” It really is impossible for one to be real, with out considering the other.
Simply because of its nature, there is not a great deal of scientific fact to back up life after death, but still many people have incorporated this into their belief system. This is especially true of Christians and other religions that teach that there is a way to survive death.
Aside from the numerous stories of near death experiences, there are always ghosts to help back up the theory of surviving death.
The fact is, not only have I witnessed a ghost myself, but there are simply way too many reports of people seeing, or experiencing ghost activity for there not to be substance to this. This is not to say that everyone who says or thinks they have saw a ghost, actually has, but there are probably many who have had an authentic ghost experience.
So what is a ghost? After years of research I have come to the conclusion that one possibility is that it is the form that our spirit takes on after death. I think it is a good likelihood that we continue to exist on another plane or dimension, which is invisible to those who are living. In essence, we do not die, but simply step through the door to another dimension where life could be something like what we know now.
This is just one of many possibilities, but definitely something worth thinking about.
