Phone Calls From Ghostly Realms

The phone rings, and the last thing you are thinking about is a ghost, or the realm beyond death, but what if . . .
Have you ever had a strange incident involving a phone, which you have never been able to explain? Maybe you picked up the phone and the line was dead, and within seconds something strange happens, or possibly you get a phone call from someone who sounds very much like Aunt Edna, yet you know it cannot be because she has been diseased for years.
If you have ever experienced anything like this, you are not alone. Many people have had similar experiences, though for some people the incident is completely unacceptable because they have been taught that such things simply can’t happen, but they do.
For as long as there have been phones, there have been people claiming to receive strange and unearthly calls. Is it possible that those on the other side of death can manipulate our communication systems at times in order to get messages across to their loved ones?
I was once told a story about a woman who had received such a phone call when she was a young girl. As the story was related to me,

“One night when I was younger; I was home alone because my mom was at work and my dad had passed away a few years before. There was a terrible storm that night and the phones were out. I know this for sure because when I picked up the phone to call my friend, the line was dead. Bored, I decided to go to bed, but during the night the phone ringing awakened me. Still half asleep, I answer the phone and there was a familiar male voice on the other end. The man asked if he had reached camera shop. I told him no and hung up the phone. At this point I realized that the voice had sounded just like my father’s voice, and he had been a professional photographer when alive. I quickly picked up the phone, but there was no dial tone, it was still out.”

Another incident that was related to me by my own mother occurred when she was about 18 or 19 years old. It was late at night, and she was at her babysitting job tending small children. The children were in bed asleep, and she was watching TV. The phone rang and she picked it up; the caller was a woman who said, “Don’t go outside” then hung up. She did not recognize the voice at all, and was very confused by the call. A few minutes later she heard some noises near the back door; when she went to turn on the porch light, it wouldn’t work. Fortunately, the doors were locked because at that time someone attempted to open the door, and began pounding on it.
Terrified she dialed 911; the police showed up just in time to see someone running from the property. It turns out that the porch light wouldn’t work because the intruder had unscrewed.
It’s difficult to say if this was a genuine warning from the other side, or possibly a neighbor saw the intruder and warned her, but it is confusing as to why the neighbor would not have given her more information, or phoned the police herself.
These are just a couple examples of phone calls that could be connected to ghosts, or some other phenomena. There have also been instances when people have returned home to get strange messages on their answering machines from people who were long dead, and even phone calls on cell phones when the phone is turned off.
Though these incidents are still largely unexplainable, there’s some speculation that this phenomena could be closely linked to that of EVP, also known as electronic voice phenomena. EVP is for a different post, but a quick explanation is that of voices showing up on recordings that could not possibly exist.
Could these strange calls be connected to the realm beyond death?
