Ghost Whisperer has been one of my favorite TV Shows since it began over 3 years ago. Although I realize that the ghost interaction with Melinda Gordon on this show is unrealistic, it is still refreshing to see a show that casts ghosts in a different light, as more of a natural element of living and dieing.
When you are a viewer of a TV Show for a long period of time you become familiar with the characters, and as many Ghost Whisperer fans are aware, one of those characters was killed in the November 7 episode. Melinda’s husband, Jim died of an embolism, after being accidentally shot by a police detective. Although Jim is remaining as a ghost, and may stay in the show as a result of possessing a body of someone who recently passed away, many viewers are extremely upset with this move by the producers.
The relationship between Melinda and Jim was perfect; some think maybe a little too perfect, so this move was a method of stirring things up a bit for his and Melinda’s characters, but like many viewers I found this character’s death very sad, especially as the couple was in the process of trying to have a child.
Though this subject is a little off topic, this episode caused me to think about the possibility of a spirit possessing another’s body at the moment of death. If this were a possibility, wouldn’t there be some cases of people who have Near Death Experiences being like different people when they come back because they actually are different people. This is a subject where more study could be useful.
